The brief, in three moves

What we built and why.

Problem

Where we started

Canadian online vape retailer serving Ontario, Quebec, and nationwide — also brick-and-mortar in Hawkesbury and Ottawa. The vape category is more regulated than tobacco in Canada (provincial flavor bans, nicotine-strength caps, age verification, no advertising) and every major brand (STLTH, Flavour Beast, GEEKBAR, ELFBAR, Vuse) ships product changes monthly. A vape retailer's website needs to handle catalog volatility (hundreds of SKUs, weekly inventory swings) AND look respectable enough that a thirty-five-year-old adult vaper feels comfortable buying there — not like the back-of-a-corner-store vibe most vape sites give off.

Phase 01 of 03
Approach

What we built

Figma-first design system that reads as a premium adult-vaper retailer, not as a teen-vape parody. Built on Shopify so the inventory management, age-gate flow, regional shipping (Ontario vs Quebec compliance), and abandoned-cart automations all live on one platform. Catalog organized by buyer intent — disposables, pod systems, salt nic e-juice, freebase e-juice, hardware — rather than by random alphabetical brand. Above-thousand five-star reviews elevated to homepage trust signal. Free-shipping threshold (CAD $100) clear on the hero.

What changed

5 product categories as IA · 1000+ reviews surfaced · age-gated checkout · regional-compliance shipping live · adult-vaper visual register

Phase 03 of 03

A Canadian vape retailer that finally reads like an adult-purchase site, not like a vaping parody.

01 / 04

The brief

SupaVapes serves adult vapers across Canada — online plus two retail stores. The Canadian vape category is heavily regulated (provincial flavor bans, nicotine-strength caps, age verification, no advertising) and the category default look-and-feel is corner-store-back-shelf. A thirty-five-year-old buyer evaluating a $200 hardware purchase needs the site to feel respectable.

02 / 04

Designing for the adult vaper

In Figma we built a visual system that takes design cues from premium spirits and craft-coffee retail — restrained typography, real product photography, brand-respectful color palette. None of the neon, neither the youth-bait styling, nor the cartoonish iconography that most vape sites default to.

03 / 04

Why Shopify

Shopify is the only platform that natively handles all of: age verification on landing, provincial shipping compliance (Ontario vs Quebec rules differ), abandoned-cart recovery, inventory management across two physical retail locations + online, and the weekly SKU churn this category demands. We wired in regional-shipping rules so a buyer in Quebec sees Quebec-compliant flavors and a buyer in Ontario sees the Ontario catalog.

The numbers

Five buyer-intent product categories live (disposables, pod systems, salt nic, freebase, hardware). One thousand-plus five-star reviews elevated to homepage trust signal. Age-gate flow + regional compliance running cleanly. The site converts adult vapers; the kind of buyer it filters out (anyone underage, anyone in a flavor-banned province) is what the category specifically needs.
