The brief, in three moves

What we built and why.

Problem

Where we started

Swiss-made CBD cosmetics and cannabis flower brand — premium positioning, Swiss-grade quality story (1000mg CBD per 10ml oil, 150-250mg per cosmetic SKU), recently expanded distribution from Switzerland into Italy via Amazon, planning further EU expansion. Three-fold complexity: Switzerland is a four-language market (German / French / Italian / English) and the brand needs all four, AND the legal framework for CBD/cannabis varies sharply across the EU markets they're expanding into, AND the category itself sits between cosmetics (which sell on indulgence) and supplements (which sell on rigor) — the brand has to do both at once.

Approach

What we built

Figma-first design with a multilingual content architecture from day one — DE / FR / IT / EN as first-class peers, not as afterthought translations. Visual system anchored on the Swiss-quality story (think Aesop's editorial restraint rather than wellness-influencer maximalism). Built on Shopify with Markets enabled for jurisdiction-specific catalog rules (some SKUs ship to Italy but not to Germany; cannabis flowers within Switzerland only, etc.). CHF currency on hero. Free-shipping over CHF 100 promise prominent.

A Swiss CBD-cosmetics brand built for four languages and four legal jurisdictions out of the gate.

The brief

MA Switzerland sells CBD-infused cosmetics, premium skincare oils, herbal teas, pre-rolled joints, and cannabis flower — all manufactured in Switzerland. They're mid-expansion from Switzerland into Italy and Germany, with more EU markets queued. The site needed to handle Swiss multilingualism (DE / FR / IT / EN as first-class peers), category complexity (cosmetics + supplements + cannabis), and cross-border legality (each EU market has different cannabis rules).

Designing for premium Swiss restraint

In Figma we built the visual system around Swiss-precision typography and editorial restraint — think Aesop, not wellness-influencer Instagram. The category default (psychedelic gradients, leaf imagery, ALL CAPS) was the exact opposite of where this brand wanted to land. We treated CBD oil with the same visual reverence Aesop treats hand cream.

Why Shopify + Markets

Shopify Markets handles jurisdiction-specific catalogs cleanly — cannabis flowers ship to Switzerland only; certain cosmetic SKUs are Italy-eligible but not Germany-eligible; CHF defaults for Switzerland with EUR for European markets. The marketing team can publish to any of four languages without engineering involvement. Multilingual content architecture treats every language as a first-class market, not as a translation afterthought.
